With 2014 now in the rear view mirror and 2015 upon us, many of you may be thinking about welcoming the New Year with some changes in your living décor – a fresh new look for a fresh new year – but where to start? Redecorating can seem like a daunting task, so why not start small, with brand new bed linens.
New bedding can change the ambience of your entire bedroom with very little effort, time and expense (especially if you are keeping an eye out for sales). At West Boulevard Cleaners, we are experts in eco-friendly, solvent-free and environmentally friendly cleaning – not just for garments, but duvets and linens as well. We will keep your bedding fresh, smelling truly clean with no chemical residue odor, and looking like new in 2015 and beyond.
If you are planning to purchase new bedding to brighten up your home, we thought we would provide you with a few common bedding terms to make your shopping as easy as possible. Apart from sheets, pillowcases and pillow shams, bed toppers can be separated into three distinct categories:
Duvet: This seems to be the most popular of the 3 bedding categories. A duvet is a down-filled (or filled with other material) bed covering. This choice of bedding is ideal for the individual who is interested in changing up their bedding look at different times throughout the year. With a wide range of choices in patterns and colours, a duvet cover is an easy way to change up your style. A duvet cover can be washed at home, but it is recommended that the duvet itself be dry-cleaned to keep your duvet looking and feeling like new.
Bedspread: A bedspread is fabric that contains a pattern or patterns that cover the entire bed and pillows. As such, they tend to be much thinner than the other two options presented here. You will need to rely on blankets underneath the bedspread to provide you with a layer of warmth in the winter, thus bedspreads are more popular in warmer climates or during the summer months in Canada. With the right choice of a bold pattern or colour, a bedspread can liven up your space and make a strong style statement for 2015.
Comforter: A comforter can be used in conjunction with a bedspread or on its own. A comforter is a patterned quilt which is filled with some type of batting. Comforters can be purchased or handmade. If the comforter is handmade, it is highly recommended that you have it professionally cleaned – it would be a shame to have a family heirloom fall apart in your washing machine.
Any one of the previous 3 bedding categories are sure bets when it comes to redecorating your bedroom. Find a style, colour and pattern that you feel will reflect your aspirations for the year ahead.
