Solvent-free Cleaning

The solvent-free cleaning process involves gentle, effective cleaning of your garments using the latest in proven cleaning technologies. This environmentally-friendly water-based system uses completely biodegradable pre-spotters, detergents, and finishing agents rather than traditional solvents, resulting in soft, skin-sensitive garments and a cleaner, safer environment.

Solvent-free cleaning is gentler than hand washing and effective for most "dry clean-only" garments. The solvent-free machines are proven, cutting edge technology offering superior energy efficiency, so they don't contribute to pollution. The fully computer-controlled washer precisely monitors and adjusts variables like water temperature, water levels, and drum speed. The solvent-free dryer is also computer-controlled to control and adjust air temperature and residual moisture. Most garments are then conditioned and hung to finish drying prior to pressing. This method is gentler on clothing because there is less agitation and garments are left with a fresh, clean scent.

Energy Efficiency

In order to clean and finish garments, we do require electricity, water, steam, and compressed air. We use the latest "variable drive speed" controlled cleaning equipment to reduce power consumption. We also use a refrigerated water-cooling system that drastically reduces city water consumption.

Our European Finishing equipment for dry cleaned clothes utilizes variable drive speed fan controls and uses steam only as needed, for a significant decrease in our usage of natural gas.

Environmentally-friendly Materials

We recycle all of our hangers and use degradable poly to protect your garments. Unlike biodegradable plastics, which need to be in contact with organic materials to decompose, our poly will eventually disappear on its own. 

Some waste is generated in the dry cleaning process. All waste generated at West Boulevard Cleaners is sent to an external facility where it is either recycled or disposed of within provincial and federal regulations.

People-friendly Solutions

West Boulevard Cleaners exclusively uses odour-free, non-chlorinated Ecosolv dry cleaning fluid and odour-neutralizing detergents with biodegradable stain removers so customers and employees are not exposed to harmful chemicals. Low alkalinity of the products we use for soil and stain removal are PH neutral, meaning garments that come in contact with the skin are comfortable to wear.
